OWNED AND OPERATED BY A QUILTER LIKE YOU

A MESSAGE FROM MARY

Hi, I’m Mary Sowatzka. I come from a long line of quilters. My grandmother made crazy quilts, without a pattern, using scraps from homemade clothing. Her quilts have become treasured family heirlooms. My 90-year-old mother still quilts daily, and I have seven sisters who are quilters. I started quilting after I volunteered to teach students in my homeschool group how to sew.

Koosa Mountain Lodge Quilter’s retreat was created for people like you and me. Quilters are the most nurturing, giving people I know. They spend a lot of time taking care of their friends and families. They are generous, caring souls. I offer Koosa Mountain Lodge as a place for them to recharge, relax and reconnect with friends.

What to Expect

Koosa Mountain Lodge is a six-bedroom lodge with a panoramic view of the North Georgia Mountains. The lodge’s large shaded front porch is the perfect spot to relax outside and enjoy the spectacular view. While the lodge feels like it’s secluded on its own private mountain, it’s actually a short drive to restaurants, wineries, quilt stores and shopping.

Your home away from home

The lodge is set up to be comfortable and cozy with everything you need to relax when you aren’t sewing. The main level features a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, spacious living room — perfect for relaxing after a long day sewing. It also has a mudroom with a washer and dryer, and an extra refrigerator. The lower level is where you’ll find the most important features: the workrooms. Spacious and well lit, it’s also stocked with snacks and drinks, and has a spectacular view.

A work area designed for you!

The workroom has space for at least 16 people to sew, plus a kitchenette and an outside entrance that makes unloading convenient. A secondary workroom is just off the main one and is set up for cutting with a large cutting table, a pegboard with rulers and basic sewing supplies in case you’ve forgotten something. It also has an AccuQuilt and Sizzix machine, both with a variety of dies available for your use.

Full of Inspiration

To inspire creativity and inspiration, the cutting room has a book rack filled with quilting books and magazines to browse for ideas. Borrow one or two, or to leave a book or magazine you are finished with. Help yourself to the scrap sharing bins stocked with scraps sorted by color. If have scraps left from your project, leave them for the next group of quilters.

Koosa Mountain Lodge was created with groups of quilters in mind. This is a special place for you to recharge and reconnect with friends who share a love of sewing. The lodge’s six bedrooms offer a variety of options to suit every bed preference.
